Vascular Ultrasound

Excellent treatment requires an accurate diagnosis.

The Diagnostic Vascular Ultrasound is used to assist your physician in diagnosing venous conditions and determining the best course of treatment. It is a safe, non-invasive procedure that can effectively examine targeted veins throughout the lower extremities to detect any abnormalities. While some diseased blood vessels are visible near the surface of the skin in the form of varicose or spider veins, many patients may experience significant vein reflux that can only be detected through ultrasound imaging.

A vascular ultrasound can show a thorough, detailed image of the veins, along with the direction of blood flow to help accurately diagnose vascular conditions.

During the ultrasound procedure, a clear hypo-allergenic, water-based gel is applied to the targeted area of the legs and a transducer is moved across the area to generate internal images. The transducer sends out high frequency sound waves and then transmits the response, creating an image based on the information reflected back to the ultrasound machine.

This totally non-invasive procedure is painless, and does not require the use of needles, dyes, radiation or anesthesia. It is a completely safe and harmless method to diagnose many conditions. The bilateral ultrasound takes about 30 minutes to perform, depending on the size and location of the targeted area. Once the results have been analyzed, your doctor will determine a personalized treatment plan.
